giz sri lanka vacancies | Project Coordinator -GIZ Sri Lanka Vacancies – Arts Partnership Development – GIZ
GIZ has been working in Sri Lanka on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1956. The GIZ office is located in Colombo. GIZ currently employs 120 staff in Sri Lanka, including 109 national personnel.
Sri Lanka is undergoing a phase of reconstruction, which is generating high rates of growth. In May 2009, more than 25 years of civil war between the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ended in victory for the government forces. Thanks to its strong economic growth, Sri Lanka is now classed as a lower middle income country by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and has made substantial progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
With support from important neighbouring countries such as China and India and from multilateral donors, the Government of Sri Lanka is forging ahead with the reconstruction and expansion of the country’s infrastructure. It is also fostering the reintegration of displaced persons and refugees, and implementing political and social reforms. This is intended to boost the economy and reduce social and ethnic inequality and inequity, thereby mitigating the potential for further conflict.
German development cooperation with Sri Lanka currently focuses on the priority area of conflict transformation and peacebuilding. In line with this priority, GIZ implements projects on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in the following sectors:
- social integration
- private sector development
- vocational training
